Feminist ranting, you know you want it.

Okay, since I'm back in Phoenix for a few days, having driven a bunch of my stuff down, and there are no casinos for me to visit, I'm going to rant about feminism, instead.  Those things are basically interchangeable, right?

I can't help but identify as a feminist, I think. (but the intersectionality kind, because for serious people can we just stop being jerks to each other about everything?) I would never have said that before I went to college and spent so much time on the internet, because my mother taught me that being a feminist means hating all things that have to do with women (feminists can't do their own dishes, evidently, and since I wanted to have clean dishes and to be independent, I couldn't be a feminist). Possibly this has influenced my other interactions with the movement, because when I see other people imply that feminism means hating men, I just figure they are being jerks, kind of like my mother, and I don't think they are very credible, also like my mother ( ... )

I'm comforted by the internet that there seems to be a growing community of feminists who mean the same things as I mean when I talk about feminism, and it's definitely comforting that some of them are men (and diverse kinds of men - the fact that Ozy is trans I think makes a big difference for the kinds of material Seriously covers). I'm sort of hoping that maybe over time, this group can get bigger and louder than the other groups, and we can start having different kinds of conversations when it comes to gender roles. But then I read other parts of the internet and I lose that hope. And then I look at pictures of kittens.

I keep trying to reply to your comment, but I can't tear myself away from zooborns. I'm just going to spend the rest of tonight looking at baby animals on the internet.
