Summary: An introspect at a possible reason why Trapper would get married when he loves being a womanizer.
John McIntyre is a complex man. On the surface, he is a family man with a wife and two daughters, a doctor, and someone with a childlike persona. He’s not all he first appears to be.
He loves his work and his daughters. His childlike demeanor lends well to bedside manner and interacting with his girls. It is what first attracted his wife to him. It is what first attracts many women to him.
John is affectionately known to his friends and colleagues as “Trapper John”, or, more familiarly, “Trapper”. The name is descriptive of his interactions with the fairer sex. Trapper has never been known to say “no” to any woman, as long as she didn’t know he was married.
Despite his lack of fidelity, Trapper wanted someone to come home to. Louise (his wife), is not happy with him wanting to have his cake and eat it too, but she knows he’ll always eventually come home to her. As long as she loves him, she’ll continue to stand by him, hoping he’ll find fidelity somewhere. And perhaps she sees something most others miss: he’s just trying get his kicks while he’s still young. But as he ages, and loses some of his childlike charm, he wants someone there who loved him through it all, so he can settle down and not feel like he missed out on anything. Maybe as he ages, he’ll become the kind of husband Louise wants him to be, and she’ll feel victorious he picked her over all the women he had loved.
