I think when it comes to any politician new on the national scene, people are quick to project their hopes and ideals onto her or him. Then, gradually, they realize that she or he is just a politician. Telecom immunity, equal marriage rights, Muslims -- these disappointments have all come in the last week, and they represent the death knell for the dream that here was a politician who would truly think and act as we do, the lie that politicians try so hard to project. Clinton succeeded in slipping the lie to the Rust Belt workers, and they believed her. Why shouldn't Obama be mendacious in the same way?

You're absolutely right. I guess I just keep hoping "maybe this time . . . it's gonna happen." I am inevitably disappointed. No one I truly admire and respect is going to have what it takes even to run for President, much less be elected.
