Of course, York. A small group of people at the top of society keeping the larger masses in the dark about their true intentions. But then, one has to wonder what's so bad down here that they'd want to leave. You have your typical reasons of curiosity concerning the surface world, naturally, but you would assume older members of the community would be beyond such flights of fantasy and they would have to be the ones in charge of such knowledge.
Certainly hope we're not dealing with some underwater terror from the great beyond. I don't think we're equipped for any kind of underwater battle. It sounds exactly like movie material, but the plot sounds too familiar.
In any case, York, I for one don't mind too much. As long as it's temporary, of course. As... interesting as this experience is, I would rather miss my legs after a while.
You raise some valid points, Zach, but if you look it from the inverse, perhaps those same elders were silenced. It's very easy to brush off the wise old man giving fair warnings as "babbling and insane," after all. Who wants to be the one believing in an old crone? It's a matter of going with the flow, peer pressure.
