[ york is Not Pleased for once, obvious in his clipped tone ] Well. That was a waste of time, if I do say so myself.
I'm not entirely certain of how I feel about this.. new addition, either.
Do you suppose the merpeople in charge of this operation knew that this would happen? It would make sense, going by common tropes used in literature.
Think about it. So many stories of merpeople desiring to live on the surface... A bunch of humans come to visit... what better opportunity to do the old switcheroo? In exchange for a place to stay, we find their artifact. We have no prior knowledge of its power. One of us finds it, then bam. We take their place, they live up on the surface.
Granted, I can't say that the majority were aware. If the death toll is anything to go by. But, someone must have had an idea that this would happen. You agree with me, don't you, Zach?
At any rate, it's obvious as to why the artifact had gone "missing." How much you want to bet that this very same situation happened generations ago? Perhaps these merpeople's forefathers knew of its power and hid it away.
Would make for the perfect movie, at any rate.
