Oh, wow, those sound awesome!

What is "The American Promise" class about?

I want to take a philosophy class, but I don't know if it really fits into my major at all.

I hope the high school/college credit thing works in your favor! My adviser was able to use all of my credits to count toward my transfer degree.

The American Promise is an American Studies class about "the American dream, American values, and the American experience as portrayed in essays, short stories, poems, plays, and films. The course directs students in examining a culturally diverse American society: goals Americans should try to achieve; assumptions about Americans; what happens when the dream is unfulfilled; what is the nature of the students' own dreams; how can students attain their dreams? Selected readings will be from early colonial to present day American literature. Student written work will consist both of critical and creative writing." For me, it's one of the most interesting-looking courses on that list.

Yesterday I saw a flier for a Late Start class (whatever that is) about theology in JRR Tolkien's works. If it's offered a regular class at some point, I'd totally take it.
