I am Batty about them! The
"Little Brown Bat" or Myotis Lucifugus), the most common bat in the Americas. If you watch it through at the very end you hear me go "Whoah!" and I duck. A bat dived for an insect next to my head. They will come around us alot when we are out in the yard as we attract the bugs. It great!

Its funny my partner and I were jogging in the park one night in summer and there were loads of bats that night, these two American tourists asked us if the bats were dangerous, they were kind of worried, I was like no, no these ones are fruit bats they dont eat people. ha ha!
I can see how when there are loads of them if people dont know they only eat fruit it could be intimidating as they are quite noisy and can fly quite low and sort of swoop when they fly lower.

I've never seen bats in my local area, which doesn't mean we don't have them. I've considered putting up bat houses, but worry about guano dripping down the side of the house.
I get very annoyed with people who go all ooogly and start screaming and waving their hands around at the sight or even the mention of a bat. I had one trapped in my top floor attic (a former house) once. I opened all the windows, turned off the lights, and left the room until s/he echo-located out into the night. All that running around waving arms just interferes with their radar.
I love your night lights in the garden. You have a lovely piece of Eden there that you've created.
We'll be in Annapolis for a wedding weekend of September 19th. How far away are you from Annapolis?
