When someone on the internet says something you don't like -- whether it be something prejudiced or discriminatory in some way, or whether it just disses your favourite tv show -- you probably make the assumption that they are willing and able to participate in a discussion about it/defend themselves. I should be allowed to control my own space.

Yes, you absolutely should be, and anyone who tells you otherwise is completely wrong.

My own journal policy is "friends only" and "If you act like a dick, I'll ban you." It works pretty well, and I've only ever laid the BanHammer down twice in 9 years here.
