Took me a while to understand exactly what was going on, though--initially I thought that the dress was meant for the future wedding of Sukey's child, and that it seemed extremely harsh punishment for an innocent victim. After I read it again I understood that she was making the wedding dress for her master's wife, and all became clear. Though I don't think the wife necessarily deserves the punishment either, though I understand that she won't be the only one suffering the lack of a child, and that the irony of the man's only child belonging to a slave and that he therefore can't acknowledge it will be painful indeed. Well done. :)
