Because of my brother

Jul 06, 2006 23:10

Finally, something I can blame on my brother:

"Having several older brothers increases the likelihood of a man being gay
...
"So what that means is that the environment a person is raised in really makes not much difference"
...
"some sort of prenatal factor.""

Well, I don't need to blame him, as such. I'm extremely honored to be one of the 5

brother, gay, homosexuality, danu, me

Your comment reminds me of the time my cousin asked me cheekily, "Danu, would you like to get my purse for me?"

Yes, sure I'd like to add you :)

Man, doesn't it kick ass when you can blame stuff on siblings and it is so incontrovertable that even SCIENTISTS take your side? I really wish a report would have been written about 13 years ago that said "Study shows that younger brother broke mom's favorite lamp". That would have been amazing (because I seriously didn't do it!)

I'm sorry, I think I meant to say that Jewish moms are never wrong.

Do you ever wonder what your life would have been like had you been het too? Just a passing question in my mind.

The study just gives more merit to observations and hypotheses over a decade old. Next they'll be bringing back the "finger" study... where gay men are more likely to have 2nd and 4th finger be equal length, and straight men are more likely to be different.

But the study doesn't explain first borns, like me-- men born after only female pregnancies, like Stal, or lesbians. I think the study is neat, but woefully incomplete.

Yes, it's not completely right, it doesn't apply to all gay men, that's why it says that men are just more likely to be gay if they have older biological brothers.
There's nothing to explain, is there? They're just trying to disprove the opponents of the 'biological theory' who say that homosexuality is learnt behavior.

There's alot to explain. Sexual attraction is not completely understood, even between heterosexuals. Further, embryonic and fetal development are not understood either. Science does not try to prove or disprove any sect of society's point of view, but rather provide an unbiased look at what happens, and build models predicting what will occur ( ... )

Oh yes, of course.. I'd love to know what causes attraction towards the same or opposite sex and whether that something is missing in asexuals or just inactive; but what I meant to say was that this study doesn't even aim to look into that.

Time, for religious people, is running out. As secular people continue to move with the times, religious people love to stay put and have things their way - but that won't work for long. More people are getting educated and are asking more questions than before, so I see that the end of such control wielded by religious authority is quite near.
