I had a busy morning today - I was in lectures or seminars all the way from 09:00 'til lunchtime [13:00]. When I came back home, there was mail waiting for me. I didn't notice it immediately.. in fact I didn't even know it was for me until Laura passed it to me and said, "This must be for you.. it's got Arabic on it."
I hurriedly ripped through the FedEx packaging to find a jar full of
sheerkhurma mix, made by my mummy. She is so thoughtful!
Last week I had posted a letter to my folks in Dubai, that I wrote [by hand] in Hindi, Urdu and English. In the letter, I had told Ammi how the sheerkhurma mix that she gave me when I set out from home in September had all run out and how I had gone to Grainger Market to stock up on dates because they remind me of home. Being such an awesome cook and such a thoughtful little mummy, Ammi made a [huge!] batch of sheerkhurma mix and Papa FedExed it to me along with a cash memo of one dirham.
I'm totally addicted to the stuff. Ammi's made it really simple for me because I just have to add a cup of milk to the mix with some sugar and heat on the hob, stir stir stir and it's ready!
In other news, I'm shamelessly participating in a dance organized and choreographed by the Desi Society for the International Grand Festival in February. We're dancing to a song from the film
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom [which amusingly translates to 'Sway, properly sway' lol] and it's about eight guys to 10 girls or so. Everybody's in like third year or something..
We had our first rehearsal today.. learnt the first few steps. I'm so stiff!
University is nothing special this week. Quite empty, lecture-wise. Went on a hospital visit on Monday to Wansbeck Hospital [don't even bother trying to pronounce the name right.. if you're not Geordie, you can't do it] and interviewed a patient. Other than that, we've just been hovering around the end of pregnancy and breast-feeding this week. Breast is best!
Went to the supermarket today and bought myself a massive 500g packet of chocolate-coated Digestive biscuits for £1. It's truly gigantic. I mean, I get excited just looking at how long it is.. and I'm not easy to please!
"Dhuaan urha ke jhoom barabar jhoom.."
"Blow some smoke and sway properly sway"
-- Theme song of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
