Looking at Scotty, he said very deliberately, "To tell you that I can live just fine without you too." ..."I just don’t want to," Kevin said to his back.
I really love this line *sighs* I first heard it in the movie, 'Rumor Has It' and it never fails to get me. I think it's just so freeing to realise that commitment is a choice that you want to make, rather than have it based on a need :)
Oh no! Did I steal a line from somewhere?! Whoops!
No, that is a great line, though. And a really important concept. Relationships are not always sunshine and roses, and you have to make the choice to work at them because you want to be with the person. IMO, people who are all "Oh, I need this person so much, I can't live without them" (ahem, Rebecca) have never made it past the infatuation stage and thus are not mature enough or ready to be in a real, adult relationship.
Nah, I've seen that line being used quite often since then :) And really, it's because it's so freaking true! I hate seeing romantic relationships based on neediness - it's unhealthy and immature.
Case in point: Justin and Rebecca. Sigh. Such a poor example of what a relationship should be like...
I think we have very different views than most people on what constitutes good TV, since we'd apparently prefer to see happy, healthy couples and families dealing with realistic situations (the good and the bad) rather than teenage DRRRAAAAMMMMAAA. :)
