It's the Pride and Prejudice of the series? I don't really see that, except for Edward being a little aloof in the vain of Darcy at the beginning. If she wanted Bella to be Lizzy she could've given her some more freaking oomph and attitude for feck sake!
Yep, the apple on the front is the forbidden fruit thing, and it also ties into Snow White. It's the one cover that Stephenie Meyer had some control over. Even she doesn't know what the next two book covers are about.
I completely respect your opinion, but I loved this book from the start. But I also see your points, as well. You might like the next one more since (should I give it away?), Edward disappears for a significant part of it and the focus shifts over to Jacob.
I think the book covers are very, very cool and pretty. The flower and the scarf on the second two rock... but it would make more sense if the pictures applied to the story!
And don't get me wrong, I liked the book. I must have considering I can't wait to pick up the second one tomorrow. I think my knee-jerk reaction to Bella just overwhelmed me with distaste though!
Ha! You disliked her after only skimming a few pages! And I thought I had been quick to judge! ;o)
And I get you on the American English thing. All through the book that got to me. It wasn't just the dialogue, it was in the actual author's descriptions, like 'when she was through with her homework'. I just went... really? No better way to say that? 'Through'?
