time_and_chips have had two interesting threads on people's peeves and pleasures in Doctor/Rose fic. Some very interesting discussion there on Nine/Rose vs Ten/Rose and why people can like one but not the other, can Rose be happy post-Doomsday? and whether Rose popping out some Time Tots is an inherently bad idea, but I thought I'd throw the question open for ( Read more... )

I'd love to see more Mickey/Jake fics. I really dislike when he is paired with Rose post Doomsday as a fall back. He's grown so much in the time he was on the alt. Earth that getting back into a relationship with Rose would be a major step back in his confindence and sense of self worth.

Icon snap!

I'm still a little disappointed Mickey/Jake didn't get to be canon. But I was so thrilled they turned up again in Doomsday I didn't mind so much - at least we know Jake's still around.

I'd love post-Doomsday Mickey/Jake with minimal angst; protecting the Earth (with zeppelins!) and going to the pub after work and winding Rose up about her latest boyfriend. Not total fluff but something fun. Especially if Mickey's gran could be in it too.

I would so love a fic like that! They're so easy to angst it would be nice to see them having fun and living their lives for a change.

I'd actually like to see a post-DD Mickey/Rose fic that did both of them justice. Could be really good if Mickey wasn't treated as a second-best, but as the right man for Rose *now*.

I love Doctors or Companions meeting other Doctors; crossing time streams, Time Scoops, the Black Guardian, even conversations with other incarnations inside their heads. I don't care - it's all good and there can never be too much of it.

Crack - crack is wonderful. The more the better.

Anything with the Fifth Doctor that ends with something like "Now Peri - I've been promising to take you to a lovely planet called Androzani Minor..." is liable to have me blubbing quietly but I love it and never grow tired of that as a twist ending.

I don't hang around time_and_chips or read the Tenth Doctor section of Teaspoon enough for it to be a peeve as such but I've never read anything with the words "post-Doomsday" in the description and I hope I never will unless it also involved a whole bunch of other Doctors and Companions taking Ten out to a strip club to cheer him up and stop him moping about...

I hereby invoke Rule 34 ("if you can think of it, it exists somewhere on the internet") and will wait here hopefully till someone finds or writes a fic with this plot...

I've read a lot of it and hated, hated, HATED 99.9% of the stuff. Seriously despised it. Because it's usually completely unrealistic reunion fic, or suicidal!Rose fic, or suicidal!Doctor fic.

Someone in one of those T&C threads said she doesn't like stories where Rose chooses to stay in the alt!world because they're "unrealistic" (or something to that effect) and although I didn't reply, HELL, did I have a problem with that view. It's unrealistic that Rose would make a decision on her own, that has nothing to do with the Doctor? That she might actually want to create her own life? That she might opt to stay in a place where she can actually see her mother and younger sibling and kind-of father and Mickey?

That said, there are about four post-Doomsday stories I liked. Out of hundreds that I've read. Yeah, all in all, you're probably doing the smart thing by avoiding the entire lot.

Also, more brain-hurty time travel stuff (predestination paradoxes and the like). Of course, this is a pretty difficult thing to work out, so I'm probably being a bit unfair based on the fact that I've probably given this sort of thing a lot more thought than most people do.

I've justed started at a new uni and somehow keep finding myself gravitating away from the chemistry section of the library and towards the nifty-looking books on time travel theory.

My icon's sort of a Futurama crossover, in that it's stealing a quote from it...

I find this really hard to answer, because in theory babyfic or mpreg or similar cliches are irritating, but I've read some fantastic examples of those. Usually by people who are well aware of the cliches, of course, so the fun is primarily in the sporkiness - but then sometimes they're played dead straight and that can work too. Clever fic, I suppose, is what I really enjoy: stuff that takes on board what's canon and what fandom's up to as well, and spins something that is satisfying as a story but also has a meta angle. Stuff that makes you look at canon slightly differently.

And a million other things which I will think of in a minute, and go 'bugger, I should've said that as well'.

Ooh, I'd forgotten that poll. Oops. I am a bad fangirl. (And I totally concur. Once IMoB and Angsty April are done, the May of Cliche shall arrive!)

What would you be happy never to see in fic again?

Babyfic. *gack* Although, I have to admit, the only babyfic I've actually read was a Peri fic, and I adored it. Okay, it was more of a ficlet, but it was so tragic and sweet.

I also tend not to read any fic with Rose in it, so I manage to avoid babyfic relatively easily. I just don't see the need for it. Maybe that's because I don't want children of my own. *shrug*

What do you wish there was more of?

Simply put: Old school fic. As in doctors 1-7 fic. And not this "New school meets old school" or "Torchwood meets old school" stuff either. Not that it can't be good, I'm sure it can. But classic Who was awesome on it's own, and doesn't need New Who stuff to make it any better. (Okay, so I'm guilty of throwing in a bad wolf reference in The Non-Entities, but it was more like an Easter egg. Blink and you'll miss it.)

Is there a cliche you secretly love?I've always been very fond of "possession" fic, especially if it involves the Doctor getting inside his companion's head. ( ... )
