Today is garbage pickup day, and when I was out walking Shadow just now, I saw this black-tailed deer skull sitting on a pile of trash bags in front of a neighbor's house.
That's the only deer species we have in this state. (I like to say I'm the only whitetail in California!) Plus, blacktail antlers typically have only three tines per side. This one has two, with an incipient tine proximal to the pedicle, which would be typical of a younger buck.
I agree. It's pretty much perfect. Judging by how clean it is, and the traces of sand on it here and there, I'm thinking it might be a beach find, rather than a result of hunting.

I always kind of wanted to have one of those ceramic deer heads they make,speaking of which. They look alot more lively,plus they are humane.
