Vimeo, I am in love with you

A few days ago, I was following a link from an online magazine which brought me to www.vimeo.com, a relatively new and not yet widely known video website and I was really blown away by the wonderful pieces of film I discovered there. The videos there are so much better than on YouTube, technically; they are mostly presented in HD - image and sound ( Read more... )

These little vids are absolutely gorgeous! The first one almost touched me to tears, the second is beautiful and yes, mesmerizing. You hit the point. And the last one was just fun to watch. I could do this for hours, also in real life.
Thank you for pointing out this little gem of a web side! I'd bookmarked it for further examination. :)

Aredhelebenesse, I ADORE your icon. Did you make it? It looks like something was done to that da Vinci (or what looks just like a da Vinci).

Thank you very much! Yes, I've made this icon of da Vinci's John the Baptist. I just gave him some flowers for his hair, because he looks so totally not like a baptist at all.

I love what you did to the Baptist (no, Da Vinci's picture doesn't look like the famous wild man out of the desert preaching repentance and dunking people in the Jordan River, lol). Now he looks like the Muse of Spring or Summer, or even Aphrodite. T

he model for this painting certainly was depicted in differing ways. Have you ever seen Da Vinci's drawing called "Incarnate Angel"? It definitely appears to be either a humorous or erotic preliminary sketch for the finished painting of the Baptist. If not, have a look at this Wikipedia entry on Da Vinci, scrolling down to "Personal Relationships":

Thank you, Pearl!
Everyone thinks immediately of YouTube when videos are concerned; I think smaller sites like Vimeo deserve more audience too.

Ah, I'm really getting old. I never could listen to Sigur Ros AND read "Deathly Hollows" at the same time. :-D
And yes, that style of animation is just wonderful, surreal and yet poetic. :-)

I especially loved watching and listening to powerlineflyers. Thanks for telling us about this, Whiteling.

I wonder if the eggman videos are hosted there. I have many bookmarked, all of them on Youtube. They are the ones featuring paintings and images that morph into each other to well-chosen music. They would be so much better to watch on this site, with its high definition!

I think I watched Powerlinerflyers about 8 or 9 times now, and I am still totally fascinated by the comings and goings there. The static camera is such a simple and yet effective stylistic device.

Yes, the wonderful eggman videos. Vimeo would be the perfect place for them! Will be on the watch out for them when I further make my way through Vimeo.

Got him, Mechtild!
Eggman913 (at YouTube) is registered as Philip Scott Johnson at Vimeo (you can search for people or videos on the site) and he has his "Women in Art", "Women in Film" and others uploaded there. Can't watch them right now as I use my hubby's laptop with disabled video function, but will do so tomorrow. I'm looking forward to see his beautiful work in good quality. :-)
