If someone could cling to a room, John would be doing so. But, since he can't, he settling for hugging doors and appliances in between throwing the last of his things in bags.

He'd miss 238. And other things. But 238 mostly. Maybe.

Late in the afternoon, Anakin appeared in the doorway, eyes shadowed with grief.

"You'll be careful," he said.

It wasn't a suggestion.

"When we have that first little one," John said, wanting to give Anakin something to hold onto, "he'll need to see his Uncle Anakin all the time."

Anakin's entire face lit up when he smiled at John. "I'll do it right this time," he promised.

Anakin added a manly back pound to the mix, then stepped back. "If zombies show up at your school, I'm the first phone call, right?"

"You'll be one of the first two we call when we get there," John said. "Me on one phone and Aeryn on another. Just to let you know we got there."

And there was only one she in Anakin's universe.
