After watching his girlfriend get knocked out and kidnapped by her own mother and the subsequent recruiting of friends to help him get her back, John's waiting for Isabel, Peter Parker, Luke and Sam. One last meeting before leaving. One last moment of quiet to hope and pray that she was okay. One last moment to be angry at her and be scared for ( Read more... )

Sam was there in a pair of slightly oversized BDUs, carrying a P-90 over her shoulder. Her 9 mm and combat knife were at her waist, and she had extra clips of ammunition for each weapon, two protein bars, and her lockpicks in the pockets of her black vest.

Luke gave her a small smile. "You fly, right?"

"Yeah," she nodded. "But I don't have a ship."

Luke gave her a look of pure mischief. "Vader does..."

Sam grinned back. "Show me?"

"Absolutely," Luke said, then trotted over to tell John that they'd meet them up in orbit.

"It's over by the apartments," he said, setting a quick pace into town. "He set it down next to mine. I mean, he's practically inviting me to borrow it."

Such a Skywalker.

"Then we should definitely take him up on his invitation," Sam said, close at his side. "To do otherwise would be rude, and we wouldn't want that."

Sam had spent way too much time with Jack O'Neill.

Luke led the way to where his X-Wing was stored. Next to it, covered in a black canopy--how cliché--was a sleek black ship. Luke's hands twitched as he pulled the covering back. "Han would wonder why I haven't blown the damn thing up."

Sam ran a hand along the side, appreciating the lines and missing the reference to Han completely. "That would be a crime. Better to liberate it from an unappreciative owner. It's not the ship's fault its owner is evil."

"It is a beauty, isn't it?" Luke said, popping the canopy open. "Someone's taken care of it, anyway. It's got elements to it a lot like flying the old starfighter," he said, pointing out the relevent parts. "Oooh. And this one has shields. Nice of Vader to give those to himself when none of the other TIE pilots get them."

Luke snorted. "Shields are here," he said, pointing. "Hyperdrive's there. He flipped the comm to his preferred frequency. "Now you can talk with me."

He pointed to the battered X-Wing in the corner with pride. "That's my ride."

"Oh, yeah, I think I see," Sam said, reminding herself that they didn't have time for her to rip the insides out of the TIE fighter and investigate. She nodded as Luke pointed out the gauges and instruments she'd need. "Good. Otherwise it's going to be a long, boring ride."

"Nice," she admired. "Manuverable?"

"Very," Luke said. "But your bird's not so bad either. It's a little bumpy in atmosphere, though." Luke made a face. "It's faster than mine out in space."

He trotted over to his ship and tossed Sam his extra helmet. "Vader never takes his off," he said. "Bet his hair's purple or something underneath."

"Good to know about the atmo," She caught the helmet and put it on, grinning. "Maybe it's a mullet and he's embarrassed to be out of style. We should give him a gift certificate for a trip to the salon. So, how do we get this puppy off the ground?"

"I'm sure a manicure would improve his mood," Luke said with a michievous smile. "He could get polish to match his inner self or something."

"Strap yourself in," he said, scrambling into the X-Wing, "And I'll talk you through it."

He ran through a very, very quick pre-flight check, then turned his comms on. "Can you hear me?"

Sam climbed into the TIE fighter and strapped herself into the seat, then double checked the harness and tried to get her bearings.

"Loud and clear, Luke," she smiled at him.

"Good," Luke said. "Now here's how you get your ship off the ground."

He gave Sam detailed instructions. "I'll wait until you're up before I take off," he concluded, "to make sure there aren't any problems."
