Travelogue 1 - This reminds me of a puzzle!

Nov 16, 2010 00:53

So it seems that this tome is magic, though the powers still elude me. It's fair at least that we should each be given a magic item when we're still green, and the rest is up to us as individuals. We've all been hit with the same spell, so nobody can recall anything save our names. Who all 'we' represents also eludes me ( Read more... )

!quicklog, time units and trade services, magic item inventory, this reminds me of a puzzle, techno whut?, beastiary, ! journal entry, spells that plague, teal deer, travelogue

There is a puzzle in the belly of a beast?

[There's a pentap. It looks a bit close, but it's been a while. And the name is different.]

What sort of things appeal to you as far as a job?

I just write as if responding to a letter, then?

It works!

A puzzle is the only name I can think of for such a thing, stranger. I wasn't sure that I had written properly, but it seems I did.

As for the trades, I understand the meaning at least behind most of the trades, save Scavenger and Journal Maker. I suppose the latter refers to bindery in some sense. One title was completely scratched out, unfortunately - perhaps the sign is in need of repair.

It does! It is very useful.

I am sorry, I forgot to write my name. I am Gai!

Journal makers make what you are writing in. They put it together so that there are always more than enough. As far as Scavengers go, they go down to the Scavenger's yard and gather things that could be useful for themselves and others, and sometimes fight golems that wander around.

I do not recall any signs in need of repair. I do not even know who would repair them... Perhaps I will take a look at the sign later.

I'm afraid the elevator is a machine, not a sentient being. I would prefer stairs, though. [totally not bitter about not fitting in it]

haha you're right white_disciple November 16 2010, 17:24:00 UTC
Is that the proper spelling of 'ella-vaytaur?' I'd only guessed.

The man Black said that it would only take me to a certain floor if it 'felt like it.' That seemed to indicate sentience to me.

I too would gladly choose stairs over whatever this 'elevator' truly is.

It is. I also believe it is Edensphere, though I find your interpretation more aesthetically pleasing.

I believe that is more by the whim of the rulers of this place rather than elevator sentience.

Indeed. I am surprised that none have carved a set.

I've it noted now, thank you, stranger.

So it is like a large dumbwaiter, then. I'd suspected there was nobility about - would they be The Edens?

Has anyone the knowledge to do so?

[Written a day after by req ^^]

It's not a monster, it's just a simple machine. It works on a pulley system. I thought it was kind of weird too at first, but it makes sense when you break it down.

I'm Wolf. Nice to meet you [pause] Rauxes. How do you say that, anyway?

Greetings, Wolf. Thank you - I was told earlier that it wasn't a monster, but other than the buttons I'm still not sure exactly how it works.

I don't know how else to write it - I could speak it for you some time, though?

It's held up by a really thick string, and when you push the button for the floor, that tells the string to loosen or get tighter to bring you down or up. That's the basics of it, anyway.

The only weird thing is that sometimes when you push one button, it will take you to a different floor by accident. I don't know any foolproof way to get around that.

And that would be fine. I work at the Butcher's if you ever want to stop by.

Like a bucket in a well?

I'd thought that was the beast's temperament. It seems even technology isn't... foolproof, as you said.

Where can I find the Butcher's?

[Handmaiden regards this entry for some time. She remembers 'ella vaytaur' and the handwriting is familiar, but...]

Hello, Rauxes. I am Handmaiden.

It is difficult to find one's way here, but I have found that following one's instincts is the best method for finding a suitable job.

Greetings, Handmaiden.

How're we supposed to follow our instincts when we can't remember hardly anything?

[...yeah that doesn't sound like Seren. Aw man.]

It does not sound possible, but as you see and do things here, you will find yourself struck by feelings of familiarity.

[Sowwy :(]

Strange. I'll look forward to it, then, I suppose. Wandering around in a half-dazed fog doesn't sound like much fun, though.
