The Westin did open up some rooms a week or so ago. Try them and see. otherwise, this late in the game, you may have to just take what you can get. Be careful tho. If you go much further north than the Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton it's a really bad part of town and you probably don't want to stay in any hotels there.
The other trick is to keep calling, at least 2 times a week, because people will be cancelling reservations and such as well.
As for hotel choice, it depends on what you plan on doing at D*C. If your focus is the Whedon track, then the Westin is fine. If you're focusing on something that happens more int he other hotels, then you might want to try for that hotel.
As of last week I think the Altanta Marriott Downtown (which is across the street from the Westin) had rooms, but you'll need to call them for a reservation.
I checked out that hotel, looks really nice but The Marriott Downtown has rooms but not at the Dragon * Con price and its like 300+ a night.I have a room reserved at the Hampton Inn around the corner from the conference, google maps says it's a ten minute walk, that shouldn't kill me! :)
Also, I know there is a separate LJ for room availability, but if you guys hear of any rooms opening up ,and remember my cry for help, please let me know!I will be much faster next year!
