The Greatest Pencil Sharpener in the World

Ok, I know, this is a weird one. A couple years ago I had the greatest pencil sharpener in the world. It was a handheld manual pencil sharpener (not a wall one or an electric one). It was transparent blue plastic, rectangular, and had one hole. There was a door on top (over the blades), and another door on the side (over the hole). You couldn't ( Read more... )

I think there's a Kinokuniya bookstore in San Diego, you could try there.

I wish I had a definite answer for you, and that I was replying for that reason, but alas, I am not. I am replying to tell you that this is one of the funniest posts I've read in a while. Thank you for telling me about the love you experienced for one great little pencil sharpener. Now I want one. Such a love affair one does not have very often. :D

I'm glad our story has moved you. It's important to raise awareness. I am comforted knowing that it is probably out there, somewhere, changing somebody else's life.

I, too, am tired of pencil sharpeners that do that stupid thing. I used to color a lot of art that my friend had drawn for me, and that stupid thing was so annoying. I'm sure I used up a lot of perfectly good colored pencils trying to get them sharp without it doing that stupid thing.

If you look around JetPens, or even if you google image search えんぴつけずり or 鉛筆削り (the japanese word for "pencil sharpener") you might see the one you're looking for. But in general Japanese pencil sharpeners (and any other kind of stationery stuff) are pretty well-made, so you'd probably have good luck with any of the ones off of JetPens. And you can usually get things a little cheaper there than at Kinokuniya.

Wood over the lead is a poorly-made pencil. The point breaking off is from the lead being broken inside the pencil.

But also, I still love this post.

No, not really. It was rectangular, and the parts didn't remove from each other. Thanks though! :)
