Is this the type of thing you mean? I googled 'ethernet protection cap'.

And this one I googled 'ethernet port protection cap'.

Kind of but it'd actually be the opposite, for putting into the female port rather than for covering the male plug. (I have no idea if they actually exist haha)

Can't help, but just a suggestion: if you can't find a purpose-made one, what about getting hold of a cheap ethernet cable, cutting the plug off the end, and using that as a blocker?

(I once had an old laptop with dodgy sound, which was prone to making loud sound effects at random moments - I chopped the connector off a non-functioning pair of headphones and kept it plugged into the laptop's headphone socket to avoid sudden outbursts of SFX when using it in public.)

I considered it as a cheap alternative! It'd be nicer to just have a flat surface over it though rather than a severed cord, which might be sharp/snaggy. Thanks :)

Goddammit. Mods can you unflag my previous comment? It's been flagged as spam because I linked to a store website.

I saw it anyway in my email. Thanks for finding the name for me - a "dummy plug" does appear to be the word I was after!
