Can anyone tell me who does the cover of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" that was played inbetween auditions on American Idol tonight? I think it was played while the guy auditioned with the mother who is sick. It was acoustic.

Someone please help me.

Yes. I couldn't wait for my boyfriend to hear it because he is obsessed with this song.... so I turn it on and he looks at me like I'm nuts and says "You haven't heard this!?!?!?!?!" Haha well excuse me, no I haven't.

It was playing when Dr Greene died on ER.

Beautiful version. I'm in Australia and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw your question. Then I got distracted before I found the song :)

It's also been used on a great episode of Scrubs with a Wizard of Oz theme and in at least one commercial. It's a really sweet version.

If you didn't know, the song has a "history" with Idol, in that last season, Jason Castro sang the song - complete with ukulele - on the show. As a result, Israel's version got bumped to #6 on iTunes, the first time one artist bumped another artist's sales up.
