I need some target practice. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the CES.

[Spaaaam]

[She's not all that far past the door--it's a sunny, open field today, with low-cut grass. That suits Murphy just fine. She has three separate targets set up, all human-shaped pressboard dummies papered over with target sheets. They stand twenty-five yards apart, at ( Read more... )

[Sam, for his part, hasn't even checked the network in an hour or so, so he totally misses Murphy's entry. And so, upon entering the CES to the sound of gunfire, Sam's immediate reaction is to draw his own gun (which he'd never had much cause to carry back home, but the Barge was another matter entirely), but he quickly re-evaluates the situation once he catches sight of Murphy and her targets. Holstering his own weapon, Sam offers a smile and a lame, Sam Tyler-y attempt at a joke.] New high score?

[Murphy blinks, half-startled by the arrival, and thumbs her gun's safety on after ejecting the chambered round.] Not bad, anyway.

[She picks up the discarded bullet and holsters the weapon. The loose bullet goes into a pouch on her belt.] Sorry to interrupt the quiet.

[He shrugs, nonplussed.] It's all right. If I'd wandered on too long in silence, I'd have probably gotten lost in here. [Not that he has a bad sense of direction, more like, well. He's Sam Tyler. He lives in his own head.]

FATE, ROS. DESTINYYYY. Or something. whateverthemess June 8 2010, 02:18:34 UTC
[She snorts.] I wonder what would happen if you were in here when it changed?

[Murphy glances down at her arsenal, then back at him.] ...Gun laws don't translate here, do they?

[Gabriel, for his part, at least waited until she was finished shooting before coming up behind her this time. He's currently leaning against... The one tree in this entire field, some twenty feet away from Murphy's current position. Gabriel needs props.]

You and that gun get any kinkier, Murphy, I'm gonna have to ask you two ladies to get a room. There's impressionable children here.

[Gabriel strides over- which is surprisingly difficult when you have short legs- to her, crossing his arms over his chest and surveying her with the kind of serious contemplation artists give the subjects of their masterwork. And after all that, all he can say is...]

Someone's a little moody today.

[She scowls all during his long study, her gun pointed at the ground and her body still turned toward the targets.] Because I came here for stress relief.

...I'm starting it the same way everybody else did. mightymorbid June 7 2010, 01:37:58 UTC
[Mozenrath, for his part, was just taking some time to get some air, and having open access to the CES is good for that. Not to mention, since Akio sent out the invitations, he knew he might as well start familiarizing himself with the changing locations and seeing if he could quickly scope out the right venues for the duels to take place in each one. Part of him hopes there's a pattern. When he hears gunshots, he jumps visibly -- since it's not that far off from the door. It's not a familiar sound to him. A few moments watching, though, and he gets the gist.]

Are all modern weapons that noisy?

[Murphy glances over, peripheral awareness of another person's presence confirmed when he speaks.] There are silencers, that kind of thing. I take it you're not from a when where guns are common.

You wouldn't be wrong. [He approaches nonchalantly, eye on the weapon more than the person, as he's never been given an opportunity to examine such things up close. Now he knows what he'll be doing in the library tomorrow.] How far away can your target be, maximum?

Depends on the gun. And the user. The bullet's going to fly until it either runs out of momentum or hits something, and I've never been in a situation where the latter didn't happen first.

[She keeps the Glock pointed down, eying him with instinctive misgiving. She's not sure of its source; as far as she knows, only wardens can get into the CES without assistance. But even so, someone who's never been around guns being so close to a live one is a good reason to be wary.] Karrin Murphy. What's your name?

Have a Cissie! notarrowette June 7 2010, 04:39:14 UTC
[Cissie read Murphy's post and thought about it for awhile. She still wasn't sure what she thought about Murphy's offer to teach her how to handle a gun. She really... didn't want to learn, but she was so tired of being afraid of herself. And she missed practicing with other people. So eventually, she grabbed her archery gear and headed for the CES. If Murphy was still there, maybe she would just watch, or join in for some of her own target practice. Maybe.

It wasn't hard to find Murphy in the CES. Gunshots are like that. The sounds also made Cissie's stomach knot up and unpleasant memories--similar gunshots and screaming and begging and then that silence--came to mind. This was... maybe not the best idea after all. She stood not far from Murphy, watching her shoot at people-shaped targets and considered backtracking before the other woman could see her. She just... couldn't quite seem to make herself move.]

[Murphy spots her as she ejects the clip from the gun and looks down at the tarp, considering another weapon. She gives her chin a little jerk in greeting, her expression creasing into a frown.] ...You okay?

[Cissie took a breath and shook her head briefly to settle herself. She laughed--weak and nervous, but still a laugh--and nodded, smiling maybe a little too widely, approaching her.] Yeah, sorry. It's just, uh. Loud. I mean, this close. [...Wow, she sounded stupid.]

They can be a little scary. [Murphy smiles in what she hopes is an encouraging way, the steady curiosity not quite leaving her face.] The muffs help with the noise.

[She gives the objects in question a little wriggle in illustration before gesturing at Cissie's archery equipment.] Coming for some practice of your own?
