Fish Chowda!!

Oct 19, 2009 13:00

I have a pound of tilapia that's taking up space in my freezer. I don't care for it very much (i don't DISlike it but it would never be my first choice), so i figured a good way to use it would be in a chowder.

I checked the tags, but there wasn't much for fish recipes.

Care to share your fave fish chowda recipe? :)

Haha living an hour from the Atlantic all my life, and being a New Englander in general, i'm used to haddock. That's MY kind of white fish! Mmmmm...

Tilapia's the only fish I really like. :) Um, I'm wondering if the daughter's sauce is Cajun Seasoning? I bought some from SweetBay and love it on Tilapia.

Haha see above comment regarding why i'm not a fan of tilapia. :)

I was thinking it might be Cajun too.

I made a chowder with tilapia exactly one time. It was AWFUL- and very 'fishy'. I'm also an ex- New Englander (now landlocked!) and I grew up loving chowders and good white fish. I thought the tilapia would do ok, but it was just... not. I do hope you have better luck with it, but I thought I'd share my warning that tilapia chowder is just NOT the same...

I have to agreee, i've had the same problem. I wouldn't use it for a chowder, i would really try to use a good rub with it, back it or do a beer batter with it :) good luck!

I wish you luck. I keep wanting tilapia to tate like 'real' fish. However, I suspect I need to take a trip back to Maine to get that. :) Oh, and fresh shrimp... I miss the ocean!
