GIP: Bedhead love

I watched Everything is Illuminated on a giant home theatre screen with friends Friday night who kept asking why they'd never heard of the movie when it was "one of the best they'd seen all year" and ended the evening listening to them sing the praises of Liev, Elijah and Eugene.

And the night before that was the delightful Breakfast on Pluto with ( Read more... )

It's such a shame it didn't get a wider distribution. EII and another indie film, "Millions", were the two best films of 2005 in my opinion.

I've just discovered that she'll be working for a program that my colleagues and I love to hate (or at least bitch about behind their backs), so OMG I'm hoping our friendship survives. ;)

O___O I wonder if she would have taken it if she had known. Meep. (Not that I really think your friendship is in danger, but your reaction to her program does give one pause.)

*sigh* EII was cheated. I hope it does well with rentals and sales, but honestly -- I never saw promotion for the film (except for the trailer that one time in the theatre) and I've seen no promotion for the DVD. At least it's been getting a lot of reviews (and mostly positive) in the new releases columns.

To be honest, we only bitch about the web guys in the program, so I'm pretty sure we're safe - it's a huge program that controls our information management, so I have a feeling things will improve with her influence.

What really ticks me off is that in the few places I've seen EII, it hasn't been placed with new releases, but rather hidden away with the regular "E" titles. So obviously no advertising there.

And my friends who are fairly independent film literate knew nothing about it at all. Grrr.

Really? Wow... that really sucks! My local Blockbuster devoted a whole shelf to it in new releases (probably around 18 copies) to it, and I'd hoped it was the same everywhere. But, Prim said her store only had about 4 copies, and I think maybe none for sale, so... *sigh* SUCH an injustice.

I should have clarified - that's in stores that sell DVDs. I'll have to check the rentals because now I'm curious.

Eighteen? Wow! I don't expect nearly that number in my neck of the woods.

Yay for good movies, and yeah, even my mom had not heard about EII and she's into Jewish Film. She did like it after I told her to go see it.

Thinking good thoughts for Alch!

If it makes anyone feel better, I felt like I couldn't go anywhere without people talking about this movie! I must have told my saw-it-at-TIFF story a gazillion times.
