It's getting on toward the end of the Christmas season, and Parsifal is taking down the faded greenery in the chapel, as well as laying in a supply of candles, preparatory to Candlemass in a few days. Enide's troubles -- what she did, have been weighing heavily upon her mind. She knows the right thing to do is confess and repent, and she wants to. But at the same time, it's difficult to talk about, and she'd almost rather not.

She enters the chapel quietly and timidly, pausing a little way inside.

Parsifal turns to her, a length of crackling pine garland draped over his shoulders. "Peace be with you, Lady Enide," he says, with his gentle smile. "Have you come to keep company with Our Lord?"

"To -- to ask his forgiveness more, I think," she says, smiling back, though it's a bit strained. She moves up closer to him, though slowly. "Sir, I -- I fear I have sinned terribly."
