I said it earlier when I first saw this, but I think this is an absolutely brilliant story. Very original, and very "warm-fuzzy" inducing. I'd call this story, with all of them chipping in to help Jackie while she's hurt, one of those "warm hug" stories. Something that just makes you feel better after reading it. So thank you for sharing! And, yes, I love it (and it's gonna get favourited on Tsp!)

How nice to see the Doctor and Jack being heroes in the battles of daily life -- shopping and cooking and doing repairs around the flat. Also very nice: Jackie realising the importance of what Rose does when she is away.

Thank you! The Doctor may claim that he hates doing domestic, but his heart is so in the right place; if he's in a situation where things need doing, I think he'd just do them :) I adore writing Jackie, too, so I liked having her see a bit more clearly why Rose loves the travelling life :)

This is just delightful - and it rings so true, which I might not have thought possible if I'd just been told, "There's a really neat story out there, about how Jackie has an accident and the Doctor helps her, and cooks, and gets along with Mickey." I'd have laughed ... and then I read this. Absolutely marvelous!

(Also, the tiny bit at the beginning, in which Mickey thinks about Jackie's embarrassment over her underwear, was heartbreaking, and as trenchant a comment on poverty as one can find in just one sentence.)

You know, I was concerned about how in-character this would seem for the Doctor and Jack. He's not the hang-around-and-help type, not beyond the initial emergency. But I told myself that this is set in that lovely space between 1941 London and Cardiff, and the Doctor really changed in that period. Less prickly, less defensive, much more relaxed and coming to see his two companions as family. It also shows in the way he greeted Mickey in Boom Town. So, with this event happening in that space, I think he'd go along with it.

I'm so glad you liked the bit about Jackie's underwear :) It's always lovely when a little throwaway comment like that gets noticed. Thank you!

Well, you made it clear that the Doctor was doing this as a deliberate thing, that it was not, perhaps, second nature to him, which is probably why it came across to me as believable. (And that goes double for Jackie - who rules, even from her sickbed.)

“How could she be a burden to me? Stupid cow, how could she ever think that?”

And that says all you ever need to know about Rose and Jackie Tyler. This was a lovely, warm-fuzzy story with all my favorite people. Thanks, dearie!
