I have big plans for this post, we'll see how it goes. Four things -
1. I'm going to reopen my offer to give ten internet cool points to whoever can tell me what the ACTUAL plot of Game Of Thrones is. Here is what I know about Game of Thrones: 1. Fire, apparently, cannot kill a dragon. 2. It makes a lot of nerds really angry, and we all know nerd rage is the best sort of rage. I want to be an angry nerd and watch it! But NO ONE seems capable of saying what it's actually ABOUT. Fantasy and I don't really understand each other so much, like I've never seen a Lord of the Rings movie but I want to be on youtube crying over how angry I am over the show. BE MY GOOGLE, HELP ME LIVE THE DREAM.
2.
-
Me whenever Nick Hoult was on screen and not that blue thing! NICK HOULT, YOU GUYS. Jeez. His American accent is pretty much David Anders English accent, right? and he's so tall and dreamy and shit. Basically, this movie made me really angry at him and JLaw for refusing to flaunt their relationship publicly so I can live vicariously through both of them and pretend to be dating one of the other. PAP PICTURES ARE NEEDED, IS WHAT I'M SAYING.
- God everyone was really a big JERKFACE in this movie. Like everyone but Drawin (OF COURSE HE DIES BEFORE ANYTHING HAPPENS, OF FUCKING COURSE!!!) and maaaaaybe James McAvoy were AWFUL. I haven't seen an X-men movie before, IS EVERYONE ALWAYS THE WORST? God, I fucking hated Fassbender's character in this, like i get it, bad childhood but JESUS WHAT A DICK. I was so upset James McAvoy was so hopelessly devoted 2 him, HE COULD'VE DONE BETTER. YOU DESERVE ONLY THE BEST, JAMES MCAVOY. Even his villain outfit in the end was super lame, ugh, fuck that guy.
- Why didn't Rose Byrne get to be a superhero? That is lame.
- Lucas Till's deep voice is so amazing! HOLY SHIT, WHERE'D THAT COME FROM. I had actually never heard him speak before because Taylor Swift music videos don't have dialog (sadly!) and I was STUNNED let me tell you. So into his combo of perfect twink body/Barry White voice. ALSO SUPER UPSET DARWIN DIED BECAUSE I WANTED TO SHIP HIM/LUCAS TILL, UGH.
This + pinball + nonverbal communication and TEAMWORK, R U KIDDING ME.
- Basically, I'm just mad this movie wasn't two hours of everyone hanging out and bonding over powers and being friends. PLOT GETS IN THE WAY SO OFTEN, I HATE IT.
2.
THAT. ENDING. OH MY WORD.
I think my screams of agony could be heard in at least Arizona, NOT RIPLEY! HE IS 2 GOOD 4 THIS WORLD. I will spend the remainder of my week praying for him, obviously.
NBD or anything, but...
These two fucking weirdos, I swear. I SHIP NOTHING HARDER.
THE NEXT PART OF THIS ENTRY WILL BASICALLY ONLY APPEAL TO
disco_vendetta BECAUSE SHE'S THE ONLY PERSON WHO UNDERSTANDS ME AND EVEN THEN I'M PREACHING TO CHOIR BUT GUYS, HEX HALL IS AWESOME AND YOU ALL SHOULD READ IT. Look if the fucking Mortal Instruments is a serious thing than Hex Hall should TOTALLY get to be a thing, it's only FAIR. This is me attempting to pimp it to you. Again. Properly.
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It’s gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie’s estranged father-an elusive European warlock-only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it’s her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
- Sidenote: The casting for this was basically done by
disco_vendetta on tumblr yesterday because I had NO ONE in mind and she was like Archer should be British and Max Irons and I was like NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN MORE CORRECT. (SERIOUSLY,
MAX IRONS - the last few moments of that video will make you a crazy person) Neither of us could really think of anyone for Sophie because thinking young actresses who could pull her off is apparently super hard . Emma Stone is kinda a cliche at this point thanks to fucking tumblr but you know what, WHATEVER, she's sassy and back to being a redhead and could totally pull of Sophie's sense of humor so THERE. Graphic's done by
balcarin, obvs. I didn't use the book cover because it's doesn't fit the book at all, so ignore it, you're welcome.
Anyway, yes, basically this book series is about a reform school for monster teenagers. Our heroine, Sophie Mercer is a witch starting her first year at the school after she preforms and love spell gone wrong at a Prom. Cue wacky magic related hi-jinks.
I LOVE SOPHIE MERCER, YOU WILL LOVE HER TOO. She's smart and witty (the books are actually pretty funny!) and kind and I want to be her best friend. I feel like the recent trend with YA main characters is to either have them be very Katniss Everdeen brand of determined/badass/cold or Bella Swan/whatever the girl from Cassie Clare's dumbass series is called, Mary Sue/bland/only exists to be a stand if for the reader and prop up the make protagonist and Sophie isn't either of those, she feels more like a actual person.
THIS SERIES HAS AN ACTUAL FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TWO GIRLS. Again, this almost never happens in YA, usually the girl has a Nice Guy BFF who is secretly in love with her or has a female friend who is pushed aside when the plot picks up BUT NOT HERE. Sophie's roommate/best friend is Jenna who is a vampire who is really into pink and manga's and is also gay - which so far is never an issue in the books, it's just a part of who Jenna is! and while I'm focusing on Sophie/Archer in this because I'm basic, Jenna and Sophie's relationship is just as, if not more important than any romantic story.
There's a love triangle in the series (really more in the second, Demonglass) because it's against the law if there isn't but really, so what, who cares about Cal. I don't dislike him or anything, he's actually a super solid dude, but it's kinda clear Sophie isn't into him half as much as she's into Archer. Archer's kinda the typical smirking, cocky, slightly aloof, bad boy which is a trope everyone is mostly over but I think he does it well. He and Sophie have a really great push and pull banter, like they're both used to being the most clever person in the room and are sort of annoyed there's someone out there who can one up them but also attracted to it. There's a part in Demonglass where Sophie talks about how she doesn't want to "give up being with a guy whose my friend but can also make me feel like this" that I thought was stupidly sweet. Stuff between them gets kinda sticky and they have sort of a Montague/Capulet situation on their hands but all of that kinda makes it more fun for me.
ANYWAY BECAUSE I'M LAME, I MADE A LAZY, HALF ASSED MIX FOR THEM. Enjoy, I guess.
You're Electric, I'm a Power Out
