Does anyone have a tutorial about crocheting an ami such that instead of creating a spiral shape as you stitch, you create increasing bands so that it's easier to change color? Am I making sense?

For instance, I'd like a video or an illustration that shows something like this:

R1: Sc 6 in magic ring, sl st to close round.
R2: Ch 1, sc 1 in same ( Read more... )

magic ring, chain, slip stitch, question

I dont really know much and I could be wrong. This is more of a question on top of your question. But couldnt you just sl st to close your round regardless of what the pattern says?

and also, i read somewhere on here that if you do a whole row of sl st, but not count it as a row and then change your colours theres less of a gap. I tried it a few times and it works rather well.

I know exactly what you're saying about that gap, I will give it a try! Thanks!

I don't really like how it looks if you do the whole thing in discrete rounds, ending each with a slip stitch. You tend to get an obvious "seam" along the place where you join the beginning and end of the round. I would suggest that you just do it in the round (just ignore the slip stitch part) and then when you need to change colors, slip stitch it to the next stitch and then switch colors as directed.

I know what you mean about the seam, I was troubled by that too... thanks for the advice!
