I Love You (In Dressrobes.)

Standing in front of the dorm room mirror, Remus skimmed his eyes down the plain of clear glass and sighed sadly. Dressed in dress robes of light brown which his mother had picked out, claiming them to ‘highlight the colour of his lovely eyes’, the boy of seventeen stared at his reflection with a critical eye that left all of what he was wearing, every feature of his face and line of his body wanting.

He’d watched James get ready in silence and secretly, something he wasn’t sure he’d ever admit, he’d watched him leave the dorm with not only jealousy in his eyes but admiration; James was perfect. He, he thought to himself as dirty, yellowish eyes looked back at him from within the world of the mirror, was so far from perfect it was painful to share a dormitory with those who were.

He forced a little smile as a shape appeared behind him in the mirror and all six foot of perfect Sirius Black wrapped his arms around the boy who couldn’t help but colour and look away. In the very corner of his eyes, which were directed to the patterned carpet, Remus saw the smile on Sirius’ face hover above his shoulder and sweep up Remus’ figure.

“You look amazing,” the usually loud voice of his boyfriend of a year whispered against his ear. Remus shivered and glanced at him, not saying anything. “Remus, stop disagreeing with me in your head. I can hear the disapproval.” He laughed a little and it sent Remus into a little chuck that sounded, Sirius couldn’t help but think, a little bit sad.

“You do you know,” Sirius added honestly, causing Remus’ heart to ache deep within him, aching beneath one of Sirius’ hands that was draped across his shoulder, echoed within the shining mirror.

“Not really, Pads,” Remus shrugged, smiling softly and letting his eyes remain on the carpet beneath their shining black shoes.

Sirius took his chin, his palm softly lifting it until the eyes of the boy met their amber reflection in the mirror before shifting to those of grey behind him. “Look at you,” Sirius said, eyes wide and intense and a little bit scary. “You’re beautiful.”

Before he could help himself, Remus smiled shyly and blushed as his mirror image turned within his boyfriend’s arms to face him. “Do you really think so?” he asked, searching for answers within the pools of metallic grey that caught on to his own. “I don’t feel it.”

“I think so. You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” Sirius’ lips connected with Remus’ with a slow softness that managed to elicit a short, peaceful sigh from the blond in the silent dorm room. The feeling of Sirius’ fingertips pressing into the back of his spine made Remus feel special, even if when he looked in the mirror it sometimes didn’t seem that way.

“Oh!” Sirius grinned as their lips parted and he fell out of the daze that ever so slightly clouded his eyes. He laughed a little and hopped over to his bed, diving through the curtains and leaving them dishevelled and messy. “I got you something.”

“W-What?” Remus asked, raising his eyebrows subconsciously as his eager boyfriend bounded back over and came to a halt before him.

Sirius just smiled and, with a rather over-dramatic flourish of his hands, produced a tiny sprig of pink flowers; spring flowers with little buds that shone like plum in the light of the dorm room lamps.

“But I don’t have a dress…” Remus laughed, giving Sirius a look that really didn’t mean to be so petulant.

“Yes but, this is the Springtime Ball,” Sirius frowned his very own brand of disapproval as he fitted the tiny flower into the pocket of Remus’ dress robes and straightened it with long, flexible fingers. “And you’re my date. And I won’t have my date looking as though I didn’t take care of them properly.”

When his fingers finally stopped and he stood back to admire his dressed up lover in soft brown tones, Sirius grinned so hard he looked slightly manic. “Wow.” He said simply, taking in a deep breath as Remus’ own eyes skimmed down the jet black dressrobes that he wore and made him even happier with a return smile. “You look so bloody gorgeous.”

“I’m not sure I can do this,” Remus laughed, sounding sick with nerves and stepping into Sirius’ arms as though wanting to hide from everything; from the ball, from eyes watching them, from dancing.

“I love you.”

Remus blinked and leaned back ever so slightly with wide eyes, lips parted as though wanting to speak and yet suddenly being unable to. Sirius had said he loved him. The three tiny words seemed to bury themselves somewhere deep within him, clinging to his heart and making his blood pump that little bit faster.

“You… Yeah?” Remus laughed, almost thinking he must have heard wrong.

“You love me too right?” Sirius asked, eyes a little unsure where they were usually so arrogant and clear in what they wanted.

The kiss that Remus placed against his lips answered the question for both of them and, as Sirius pushed him hard into the mirror behind him, he saw in the corner of his eye the little flowers slip from his pocket and fall gently to the floor.
