This was from the lunch where my folks met my birthmom for the first time, November 9, 2007. I'm finally starting to add some more pics to my userpic file. Might as well since I paid to have the 100 limit

In 2000, the State of Oregon passed a law opening access to birth records. All birth parents had to fill out paperwork stating whether or not they wanted to be contacted and if the answer was no, they had to fill out a medical/history questionnaire without identifying info.

Last Spring after my Dad had another surgery I sent away for her contact information again. I had originally gotten the info back in 2001, but lost the paperwork during my move before I had made contact. So I ended up talking with her on the phone in late March 2007 and met her in April 2007. Since then we've spent a lot of time together and I've met other birthfamily too. A cousin, two aunts and a second cousin.

Sorry to hear that it wasn't better for you. My birthmom wants to spend as much time as possible with me, so I've been there for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner etc. She and my folks have sent cards back and forth, and my folks have bought her a gift from their recent trip to Spain. It's going well so far... but my birth cousin is a flake.
