I'm back!

I arrived back through PDX last night, and we had some complications at the end of the journey, because my Dad thought we weren't coming back until tonight. That entailed taking a cab home and a bunch of phone calls here and there, and borrowing some good samaritan's cell phones as we ran out of change and calling card minutes. It also entailed ( Read more... )

Thanks for the postcard! Was your French class useful for your travels or did it just make the locals look at you and wonder what was wrong with you? That's what happened when I went to Germany.

It was useful to varying degrees. When we went for a "home-hosted" tea/tour visit, our program director told us that the lady taking my group of 14 was fluent in English. That meant, not very fluent at all, and I had to translate everything she said to the group in French. However, that resulted in me getting a tip of two 1.5 litres of Coke Light, and I had been very caffiene deprived up to that point, so that was good.

I did get several double takes as folks had heard my Mom talking to me in English prior to my question or order, so they just couldn't understand that I was asking them something in pretty good French.

Hey did you take any pictures? I am planning a trip in about 7 or 8 years. I know, that is long off, but it is never to early to start planning to go to Europe. Hopefully by then my French will be up to par. Thanks for the Postcard, my daughter thinks it is cool! Missed you. Glad you had a good time, and I am glad you are back.

I got about 399 on my digital camera and 3 - 27 shot Kodak Disposable cameras too. It'll take me a while to get organized as I have to download the pics, save to a CD, and get double copies of everything as my Mom's cam was on the fritz for part of the trip.

I might be investing in upgrading my Flickr account, in which case, I'll be posting most of them online.

Don't have a time frame yet on that, as I have to find a good place that is relatively cheap because my Mom wants me to get double prints on everything (and give her one of everything on top of that) and I want CDs or DVDs of the sets as well for digital work with them.

Any ideas on accessible places to get that done?
