I was pretty jazzed going into this flick. Sam Raimi had finally returned to horror! Yay! I tried to read as little about it as possible. All I knew was that some chick was trying not to, um, get dragged to Hell.
I'll cut right to the chase. Fairly Epic Fail.

Remember the part in Evil Dead 2 where the evil spirit was jumping from one person to another, suddenly making them freaky and scary, and then jumping to another person? Raimi fucking RIPPED HIMSELF OFF in DMTH. Same scene. I was SO bummed.

Did you notice that Raimi basically re-created the scene of the evil spirit jumping from person to person that worked so well in Evil Dead 2? What's the deal, has he fucking run out of ideas?
Yet another example of racism or at least bad characterization was the Mexican bruja's asking for 10,000 to help the girl. 20 years ago she swore revenge on the dumbass demon. But what, because she's a money-grubbing beeyach, she has to get payment before settling up HER score? Right.
Heh. If you haven't seen it, rent "Catacombs." It'll make you feel aaaaaall better re: women in horror flicks.
