Jan 12, 2009 12:17

Last two movies! Well, the last two I plan to see on the big screen anyway. I probably will rent Butterfly Effect 3 when it comes out, because it's getting pretty good reviews, and I'm a Horrorfest completist. Sad, isn't it ( Read more... )

I keep reading these outloud to Gary. His latest was 2000 Maniacs. Ever hear of that one?

And if you saw Suicide Club, did you see Strange Circus?

I've seen the original 2000 Maniacs, and the remake, 2001 Maniacs, which is almost as much fun. Picture Robert Englund with a Confederate flag eyepatch...

I haven't seen Strange Circus yet, but I've got it in my Netflix queue. Any good?

Um, Gary says Strange Circus is, and I quote, "Disturbing." This from the guy who loves Ichi the Killer, the Vengeance Trilogy, Dario Argento, and Jodorowsky. He says it's worth watching, but there is ick-inducing subject matter, so be warned.

OOOO disturbing! I'm so there!

There was a lot of disturbing material in Horrorfest this year. A lot of nihilism too. I love me the nihilistic movies.

BTW, Gary wants to know if you have a list of your faves somewhere. He thinks he's in love.

I have some on my website: http://www.psychenoir.com/parlor_movies.html

Sadly enough, it's about two years out of date. I've seen a TON of movies I need to add. Okay you just motivated me!

Does Gary have a list somewhere? Sounds like we have very similar taste in movies! Most of which would horrify my poor Daniel. Heh.

I should bug him to put a list up. He'd probably say it would cut into his movie-watching time.

I can watch some of the stuff, but I can't OD on it. I would have to give an enthusiastic thumbs-up to Old Boy but I don't know that I can ever watch it again. I'm such a wuss.

Oldboy is one of my favorite movies. I also really liked "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," from the same trilogy. I totally lost sympathy for the heroine of "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" when she shot a puppy. I know, I'M a sick puppy. I can watch a zillion people get shot, but one little puppy and I'm crying like a little girl.

Anyway.

Did you hear that there's going to be an American remake of Oldboy starring Will Smith? ACK! Don't get me wrong, I love Will Smith. He's an excellent actor (I loved Hancock) and a stone cutie. But you KNOW they're just going to turn it into a standard action film, instead of the wave of weirdness the original is. And do you REALLY think they'll go there with his daughter? I don't. American directors don't have the nerve, at least not in mainstream movies.
