Thank you. It's an image that I find very true and very frightening in a leader of such a great power as the U.S.; I wish I could get the image out of my head, but I don't think I'll ever be able to look at the man again without seeing his hands all gorey and dripping. Maybe it's a psychic thing, or maybe it's just a metaphor gone out of control, but his hands will forever be red in my book.
There is plenty of blame to go around, dear. The city government fell down on the job, the state government fell down on the job and the federal government fell down on the job. There is an excellent in the Las Angeles Times today that talks about how state and city disaster preparedness plans were in the works but were either not complete or not properly implemented. One of the big questions I had, which was why the city and school district buses were not used was answered - lack of drivers.
Another problem was that over the years the City of New Orleans has had so many 'close calls' and so many voluntary evacuations called that many of the residents thought that this would be more of the same.
None of that, however, excuses the gross incompetence of Homeland Security or FEMA.
As far as Bush is concerned, I don't see him as a lying politician as much as a mediocre manager who has been promoted way beyond his level of competence. He has definitely exceeded his Peter Principle.
(i'm not really anonymous, it just isn't recognising me right now, but it's weepingmoonblue) Hi! Since you're FC'ers, i friended you back and put you in my special filter. i can't believe i left this letter public! i'm kind of embarrassed about it, but i was so angry...that man just pisses me off until i can't see straight. *sigh* i get verbose when i'm angry....well, i get verbose when i'm anything other than dead, actually. :) Thanks for friending me! :)
