Essentially yes. What they usually do in affirmation studies is have people write essays about other important values in their life: being good at art, having great friends, cooking, whatever. It's just that I'm trying to get people to affirm within the academic domain because I want it to have positive effects on an academic stereotype, and everything I read yesterday said just the opposite. It's not actually enough to ruin my thesis, but it doesn't make me feel good when I'm in the midst of an already very stressful couple of weeks.
