There are a couple of options. They'll try to get you to apply for a DB credit card. Then you can pay in full. Or you can put the dress on lay away. You pay a certain percentage down and then they set up how much you pay until it's paid off. This is what I did.
I went in my regular clothes, they provided a strapless corset when it was clear I was going the strapless route. You could always wear your own.
With the BM dresses from David's Bridal, if they don't want to pay in full, the bridesmaids have to pay half when they order it, and the other half at pick-up

Yes, the bridal shop attendant would be putting you in the gowns. Wedding gowns are meant to go on over the head, as it's less stress on the gowns, especially since the ones in the store are tried on over and over again, so they need to be as gentle on the dresses as they can, so that they hold up for as long as possible. Not to mention, most gowns are "larger" than you think, with many layers and they can be difficult to maneuver. Some gowns zip up, but many are laced up, so you'd require help with that. Also, if a gown isn't exactly your size, it would be clipped in the back, so that you can see what it would actually look like on you as best as possible.
That's the same dress I used for my matrons of honor! (My bridesmaids had different dresses and picked them first....if I had seen this dress first, I would've had them all in it!) I also had it in marine blue. :)
I love the style of the dress you picked out for your bridesmaids! The color looks gorgeous too.
I'm not sure of payment plans as my Mom paid for my dress and my sister's dress, and then my best friend paid for her dress (completely up front). I would think they'd offer payment plans - at least I'd hope so!
For trying my dress on -- I just wore (typical/daily) undergarments and went from there.
