Guest entertainment

I recently attended a wedding were the DJ wasn't very good and the guests just didn't seem to be enjoying themselves. Many people cut out early. There was no other entertainment other than the not so good DJ and a very tiny "dance floor". Obviously I would really like to avoid my guests not having a good time ( Read more... )

We just had a DJ. He was awesome, and pretty much everyone was on the dance floor all night. I only had a few people leave early (because they had to any way, not because it was dull). I didn't bother with any activities. Everyone said it was one of the best weddings they've ever been to.

One of my friends had a photo booth at her wedding. Those are always fun.

Thats good to know. This DJ was just...terrible. They kept the volume very low and we could barely hear the music at the reception tables and could not hear the speeches or any announcements at all and it wasn't like it was a huge wedding with a ton of people.

Yeah, a bad DJ will ruin the party, for sure.

We didn't have a DJ or dancing (lunch reception). We had toys as centrepieces and all sorts of contests involving playing with them.

I am curious about your contests, care to share?

Things like "Who can fire the cannon further?" or "Which toy rollerblader doesn't fall off the ramp?"

All our centrepieces were Playmobil. My post-wedding post is here for pictures: http://weddingplans.livejournal.com/13907375.html

We opted for a band over a DJ and are so glad we did. The band leader/MC was really good about feeling out the party and giving people what they want. I'm sure you could get this with a DJ, too, just try not to price shop because the MC really sets the tone for the whole reception and can make it or break it.

I agree one shouldn't pick a DJ solely on price, but good DJ's can come cheap. Ours only does it as a side job so he didn't charge a ton (like maybe someone who lived off the earnings would).

He was willing to stay as long as the party kept going, didn't require a meal and met with us before hand to go over names, songs, etc. and he was great, really kept the party going and was very energetic. He charged around $700 I believe, which was at least a few hundred cheaper than every other place I checked....however we HAD seen him in action, he DJ'd my work Christmas party the previous so we knew what to expect going in.

We're having a DJ and then an old time photo booth. Not everyone loves to dance, regardless of how good the DJ may or may not be. We are going to try to think of something else to incorporate as well. We're going to have "boardwalk treats" like cotton candy, sno-cones and funnel cake so I'm thinking maybe some kind of game.
