arch to get married under

Jul 21, 2010 13:19

I am getting married at a beautiful farm in a large open field. By "large", I mean it's probably an acre. It has a stone fence around it dating back to the 1700's and it is edged by some lovely trees, but other than that is quite plain. We are holding the ceremony in the corner of the field but I am thinking about what I can do to spruce it up a ( Read more... )

As far as the arch, it should be quite easy to make as long as you have the proper tools and a bit of experience. Main cost would be materials. Did you have any idea what you wanted to make it out of? If you don't have finishing equipment (routers and such) you're probably going to want pre-finished and routed pieces to just put together.

Does your future FIL have any carpentry experience?

yes and he has a router, a table saw, and a sander, so I think he would be able to do it. I might send him this photo and ask if he'd be willing to try it.

If he has all the equipment, there's a good chance he's done it before. That's a lot of money to sink into something randomly. ;)
For someone who does woodwork, that would be an easy thing to make.

How much were you looking to spend on the veil?

It would really depend on what it looked like and if it fit the bill.

I'm not 100 percent sure I want to part with mine, but thought it couldn't hurt to reach out in case it makes sense for you and for me. It's not ribbon-edged, but lace-edged. Attached to a comb. Has some sequins - I'm not crazy about sequins but this looked so so pretty over my dress. I don't have all my photos back yet, but here are a couple I have so far:

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area they have arches and things like that to rent. I'm not sure of their prices though. Good luck!

We don't allow people to sell their stuff on here, so that means we can't allow you to place an ad to purchase something, either. :-( Please remove your second paragraph - otherwise I'll have to delete this post.

Thanks!

That's too bad, it could have been helpful. I will remove it.

Thanks! There are other communities on LJ, in addition to other forums on the internet, where you can post requests to buy items. Check those out.

Have you checked Craigslist? I just did a search for my wedding's area for arches and arbors and got five arch listings. None of them are really the style I'm going for, but I'll keep checking in the future. Lowe's has several arches in the $100-$200 range but they're not the style you showed in your picture.
