I've never been but I keep hearing good things about Excellence Resorts - we're thinking about honeymooning at one of the one in Mexico.

I think I've seen compliments for them here, and then my aunts & uncles (two couples) went down to the one in Punta Cana and were impressed (and they're HARD to impress, lol).

Since I'm in Boston, my uncle made the point that Punta Cana is closer than Mexico (we were thinking Mexico for the cheap and beachy factor)-- one direct flight, on the beach in five hours. I don't know where you are, but that was a deciding factor for us!! Good luck!

I'm in New York. I checked really quick on Kayak and it appears that getting a direct flight from here would be difficult (surprisingly, since it's New York). However, getting one from Philadelphia would be easier, and my fiance lives closer to Philadelphia than New York. Oddly enough, I'm finding that also as I search for flights to Orlando.

...that is totally bizarre. Before JetBlue started their nonstop service from Boston to Punta Cana (great timing, hoorayyyy!), all the flights (and the cheapest ones, too) were from JFK. Good luck!! :)

I just went in December with FH for his 30th birthday and we had a GREAT time. We stayed at the Dreams in Punta Cana and it was muy fabuloso. It was super-reasonably priced, too! On Expedia, I booked it with air, upgraded room and full all-inclusive for only $2,100 for seven days! Here are some of my pictures of the resort!

Pictures!

Oh, WOW, that's amazing!! Yeah, we'd looked a couple places online, but we found the best deal from the resort's website, actually, since they were having a special. But I'll definitely check out Expedia in the future. I LOVE the pictures-- beach, water, pool.... Amazing! We're looking for somewhere with no commitments for a few days, just relaxing. :)

We're going to Jamaica in September as well. We haven't booked our resort yet, but they should offer you the insurance when you go to pay for everything. I played around with some of the resorts check outs (up to actually giving them my credit card) and the insurance was offered there. We have the plane tickets already and added insurance to that.

I'll definitely check it out via the resort! And I'll talk to my insurance company, since I'll be talking to them about wedding insurance anyway.

Yeah, see which one is a better deal. I've seen prices on the resorts between $80 - $100 per person and the insurance for the airfare was only $50 per person!

Jetsetter.com is a division of Gilt (which is like Rue La La, an online sample sale thing) except it's all hotels from around the world. Each special rate opens up for six days at a time, two to three new hotels a day. I think the sale opened yesterday (?) for the Punta Cana Resort in Punta Cana, rooms were like 60-75 bucks a night, depending if you wanted the bigger suite or not.

I'd have to send you another invite...I think if you ever buy anything there, I get some sort of referral credit (just making it known so i don't get in trouble!)...but i saw it and thought that's what you were referring to!

Ho. Lee. Cow. That sounds awesome!! And thank you for the Rue La La invite; I keep checking in and drooling over their new boutiques.

Be very, very careful about vacation insurance and make sure you read all the fine print and check with the BBB and the state's attorney general to see if it's legit. http://www.elliott.org/ has covered a lot of travel insurance issues.

Thanks for the advice. I'll absolutely check everything out; the fine print is so important. If insurance covers everything except, say, weather? Yeah, not exactly what we're looking for. Thank you so much for the link!
