Pissy vendors

I don't know if any of you have encountered much of this, but I remain amazed at how unprofessional some of these vendors are. I just sent out a big round of "thank you for your time" emails to vendors who I wasn't going to use, and a couple of them sent back kind of passive aggressive notes about how I should have interviewed them in person, or ( Read more... )

In situations like that, I generally have to hold back myself from sending them an email to the effect of "Thank you for confirming my decision."

There really are a lot of professionals and business people out there who just don't know how to draft a good business letter--which is what any email communication should boil down to.

Ha, I'd sent just a general inquiry about pricing once. Later on we decided to go in a different direction, so when a woman called to follow up a few weeks later I thanked her but told her we'd decided on someone else and she goes, "Ugh, why did you waste my time then?" and hung up.

It was a GENERAL INQUIRY FORM on a website, not a personal conversation or anything. Geez. People are so rude.

Yeah, and it's like they're screaming, "please don't recommend me to anyone else either! I hate word of mouth."

I picked between two florists, but I would recommend the one I didn't pick to other people because she was absolutely lovely.

What amazes me is the difference between the written and oral communication skills of some vendors. There are a few vendors that I've met with in person and they're great, and whenever I call up I talk to someone helpful - but should I send an email instead, if I want something in writing, I have to practically harass them for an answer and the written communication skills I receieve in return are almost always subpar.

You'd just think that in this day and age of technology, people would learn how to successfully execute electronic communication when they have a business...

But in this day and age, fewer people are willing to accept that, when typing, one still has to use proper English.

U no wat i mean? lol

Well, at least these are vendors you're not using! My reception venue (though a winery that doesn't treat weddings/banquets as its sole service/purpose) is terrible with communication. I emailed a question once about their recommended DJs, as their site is set up kinda funky and I wanted a DJ who was familiar with the layout. Their email back to me included one name, and that's it. No, "Dear Extoria," no "Hi, how are you?" no, "Glad to help" nothing. Just a name. Talk about second-guessing your decision!

OMG! I remember declining a vendor (DJ) by email, he replied to me essentially calling the DJ's we hired non-professionals and not only would regret hiring them, but also that it would make my wedding tacky.

As it turns out, our DJ's saved the reception so I say trust your gut, and be glad you didn't hire the sour grapes people. *HUG*

Charming.

It reminded me of this email event we had in our country a few years ago. It still makes me cheer a little inside. :P
"Cheap and tacky" wedding?
