Changing dresses for reception?

Nov 03, 2009 13:27

Matt has been expressing to me recently that he wants me to change into a different dress for the reception. I'm not sure what he has in mind, to be honest, lol. I was planning to wear my wedding dress the whole night, but he's really excited about the prospect of two dresses for some reason. This is further perpetuated by a recent episode of My ( Read more... )

I never even considered changing dresses and I don't even have my dress yet.

I think that if you want to wear your dress the whole time, do it. Explain to him how important it is to you.

I spent a little under $900 on my dress. I'm not gonna wear it for a 30 minute ceremony and then get changed out and never wear it again. That is crazy talk!

I changed into a new dress to leave the reception and head home though :)

I'm not changing, for exactly that reason. I love my dress. I spent $400 on it, and I want to wear it the whole day. Shoot, I want to wear it every day.

I agree with this! Wedding dresses are expensive, and worn for a short enough time as it is!

I'm not changing, and if someone asked me to I'd refuse. It's my wedding dress, and I'm going to wear it as long as I can. I only get married once, and I want to wear the dress I wore to get married in for as long as I can, to keep the day going! A reception-only dress wouldn't be as special to me.

I think you should really do what would make you happiest; if it means a lot to you to wear your dress the whole time, explain that to him, and he should understand. After all, he's marrying you, not a reception dress! Conversely, if you decide that you like the idea, then go ahead and do that. :)

I'm contemplating getting a two-piece dress so that I can change the skirt...or a simple tea-length reception dress. I really love the full ballgown skirts, but FH and I have really started getting into dancing since we've begun taking lessons...and I don't know how I'd do anything beyond sway back and forth in something so poofy!

However, if I can find a dress with a dancable skirt that I love, then I won't see the point in changing between the ceremony and reception.

Maybe you can get him to drop the idea if you promise that you'll change into something special after the reception? ::wink wink, nudge nudge::

I didn't change because I loved my dress and I figured it was the only day I was going to wear it, despite the fact that there was an insane heat wave and no AC. I felt so beautiful all day. When I did change, so we could go catch a ferry, I wore jean capris and a cute polka dot top, and kept my veil on.. I got a free ferry ride! Worth over $60!

That's awesome!
And gave me a honeymoon idea and another reason to look at veils!

My veil flew off on the ferry though! So if you do go on one, hold on tight, or stay inside ;)
