Mod Post: Some Reminders

Jan 26, 2009 10:19

The moderators of weddingplans have been especially busy the last few weeks.  A lot of people become engaged over the holidays, including New Year's, and I expect that to increase with the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. Our membership has increased, and as such, the amount of mishaps have increased.  We love new members, we just don't love violations. :)

This morning I had to delete roughly 50% of the overnight posts from the community I moderate; I definitely do not envy you the task you have here, heh. Godspeed! ;)

It might be helpful to add to the rules how to determine if a pic is more than 400 pixels in the same way the rules have a link to how to do an lj cut. I think perhaps some people don't know to check photo size and they think their photo is small enough when it is not. I speak for myself here, when I first joined this community, I didn't know how to check that until I was warned by a mod about a photo I posted. Durrrr.....

That's not a bad idea. I'll chat with the others about this. If nothing else, we could add a link in the rules. Thanks!

Thank you to all the mods! This is a great community because of all your hard work.

I was so embarrassed when I was corrected by a mod in my first post. I like to consider myself mostly internet savvy, but obviously I did and do still have a few things to learn.

Don't be embarrassed- you're not the first, nor the last person to post a large picture outside of a cut. :-)

Thank you!

Might I suggest an addendum to one of the rules? For rule #10 (We do not tolerate posts made for personal gain) - perhaps include getting WPers to vote for you in a contest or requesting visits to site that will benefit you. But perhaps better worded than that, 'cause I mangled it :)

Also - the LJ cut is really tricky. I screwed up my first progress post big time because I didn't understand how it worked (even after reading a bunch of LJ help pages on it). Perhaps there can be screen shot of how the HTML and content behind a cut should look? I think that might cut down on some of the mishaps.

We are actually in the middle of figuring out the contest posting situation, because we have noticed it as mods. So I am sure that will be updated soon.

As far as the LJ-cut, we already have a link in the community rules that takes the user to the official LJ help page about how to do it. I don't feel we need to do more than that, even if it is confusing.

However, that could be a suggestion you can make to the LJ Help team.

Thanks, I think you guys do a great job. So much work!

Thanks for the suggestion to contact LJ help - I might do that. I had added the content after the cut, instead of inside the cut. :)

I think it depends on the posting method that you use, too. If you use Rich Text (I think that's it, anyway) then you put the content inside the little grey box, if you are using a regular client or posting method then it goes after the lj-cut.

Thank you moderators! WP would be a massive triple posting, large image clustering, duplicate questioning community with out the rules! :)
