you know what... i agree that it's ridiculous. rentals are horrendously expensive, and situations like this make you realize what you really need!

our guests are standing on the beach, btw, and we're just getting dressed in the hotel room beforehand. :)

The dressing thing is an issue b/c we are not doing the wedding at a hotel (the only place nice hotel told me they wouldn't do a wedding on my date T_T) So I will be getting dressed in a rented house a few miles away.

I am fine with people standing, but if some of the elderly people get there early they will be on their feet for a while and it would have been nice to do chairs. (Originally I was going to not bother, but the guest list has many elderly)

Wow, that's horrendous. One of the reasons we didn't have a backyard tent wedding was because the rental costs were insane!

For real. I cannot imagine what I would have done if I didn't book my reception (club on base). Booking all the tables and tents and silverware and....ACK!!!

And of course, like almost every vendor, they KNOW you need their services, so the rental companies totally gouge you!

How are rental companies gouging you? When you consider the expenses and labor involved in the industry they actually charge fairly fair prices for what they provide. Are there some companies that charge too high of a price? Certainly. But as an industry, that's not the case (at least in my opinion, having worked in the industry years ago).

I would go with the metal chairs. Seriously no one is going to remember what they sat on for the ceremony. I would show the company the original quote and say that you understand gas prices went up (although unless the quote is 3 years old give me a break) but to jack everything up and for the poor communication, they just lost your business.

Companies seem to forget that the customer is paying not only for the item, but for the service and if they act crappy then they lost the sale. Try filling the gas tank with that.

And you should also send an email to their president/person in charge, explaining the entire situation, and why you are not hiring them! Horrible customer service should not go unnoticed.

Maybe also see if some of your friends have 'camping' chairs they might bring? Or, let people know on the invitation that there will be no seating so they can bring their own?

I agree that the price is just ridiculous, for a few chairs.

Since most of the guests will be flying in I think we will just get a few metal chairs for the elderly and the rest can stand. Bringing a chair on a plane would probably be a real pain. >>; Good idea for a local wedding though!

am i the only one that thinks that they should stick to the original quote that they originally gave you? They gave you a quote, they should stick to it, thats why we get quotes in the first place. I can understand the transportation fee changing but they should have informed you long ago instead of not responding for months and then giving a completely different price than quoted. I just think its bad business.
