I was just wondering if anyone else is playing the traditional/nontraditional wedding game? I'm trying to be who I am along with making everyone happy. I am really trying to incorporate the cultural and unique aspects that are us along with the typical American traditions. Overall, I'm ok with this I just don't get the unneeded comments

when anyone gave me grief over something that i wanted to do, i would listen and say: well, nothing is set in stone, if you have an idea i'd be happy to hear it and take it into consideration, however - for right now, this moment this is what i want at my wedding.
i've repeated it many many many times during even just one conversation but it keeps me from getting too pissed or crying and after awhile its fun. we also started showing the parents photos or telling them ideas of things we knew they would hate...they'd shoot it down and we'd tell them our real idea and it's funny how it wouldn't be nearly as bad as if we told them straight out.
sure it's manipulation, but if it works...and no one bleeds? i'm really ok with this.

And I say run with the trail mix idea if you like it!

If people think having trail mix is going to make your wedding a "circus" then they've got a few screws loose, haha. It's not THAT big a deal! Jeebus, haha. It was like the one poster who had people asking if she WANTED to ruin her wedding by having a Nintendo-themed cake... The only way you can ruin a wedding is to have one of you not show up :P
The trail mix sounds awesome. I would definatly do it. :)

Do what you want for your day. I get a lot of crap for my wedding date. I am often rolling my eyes because people usually say one of two things.
"Well, he'll never forget your anniversary!" (as if he would. *eyeroll*)
or
"Wow! You'll get to have fireworks for your wedding!" (which is usually accompanied by the punchline of "or is that for the wedding night?" *eyeroll)
*headshake* Do your trail mix and do let us know how it turns out!

If one more person tells me that my nintendo themed wedding cake is a stupid idea or that its gonna ruin my entire wedding day, im gonna just start uninviting people.
Ive started fighting back. My parents and future inlaws have no problems. The excuses are coming from my aunts and cousins. And they wont say it to my face, they will wait till im almost out of earshot and then say it. So i get bitchy at them now. I told one that if its such a problem that you have to whisper about it behind my back, then i have no problem making sure that their invite gets "lost in the mail". Its just getting old very fast for me. Im giving you a free meal, with an evening of dancing and your biggest complaint is about my cake! Seriously?!
Dont let them bug you. And if it gets too far, call them on it. People hate to be called on their shit. They really do. They shut up after that.
