I'm going to be HONEST. PRICE what it would be to do the different cruises paying for them separately. Many many times it's actually cheaper if you pay for it separately especially if you take advantage of discounts (many can be found on www.wdwinfo.com or www.tourguidemike.com)
We're doing this as well, it's our compromise for not having a Disney wedding. But we're going to the Grand Floridian for 4 nights, then on the 7 day western Caribbean, then back to POFQ for 4 more nights before driving home :)
we're trying to keep it ~week, and FH thought just a regular cruise like princess or norwegian would get boring for 7 days straight of cruising, so he found the land/sea package with DCL. i've read it's good for 1st time cruisers so they can see how they actually fare on cruises.
You're right, the 3 and 4 day cruises ARE good for first time cruisers. But what I'm telling you is many times it's actually cheaper to price the 3 or 4 day cruise and then price the 3 or 4 days at Disney. While many times they can be comparable, it's often cheaper to pay seperately.
Oh, and the long honeymoon is the compromise for not being able to have our wedding at Disney. It was all planned and everything, and then my family decided to boycott going down there. Shitheads.
Yikes! It might be a good price... and I can't really offer you any advice... except to say that we're staying at a waterside hotel in Florida for 6 nights for about half the price.
But if we could afford your trip... I'm sure we'd think about ;)
This may be somewhat outdated, but I went on that exact same land/sea package when I was 14, in the inagural year of the Disney Cruise Line.
I must say, it was the best vacation I've had to date. It really is worth the money (we even stayed at Port Orleans).
I say take it-the price is good and is very much worth it and the experience is unmistakable. My FH and I are doing the Disney Cruise Line as our belated honeymoon/one year anniversary trip, because it is just that good.
(and take along a camcorder so you can get good video of Animator's Pallate.)
Like the last poster, I went a while ago (junior year of high school--so 2001?). I can really only comment on the cruise part (we went on a choir trip--spent 2 days singing at Disney, then a 3-night cruise).
The cruise was amazing! We spent the first day & night at sea, the whole second day docked at Nassau (and unlike most other cruise ships [at the time, anyway], the pools stayed filled and usable while we were docked), then spent the last day docked at the Disney island, which was wonderful.
There's tons of stuff to do on the ship--there were concerts and musicals, there's karaoke, if that's your kind of thing, a spa, a pool just for adults, so you can swim or lay out without being splashed by kids, and a million more things I can't think of right now. And I'll echo the above poster and say take a camcorder for the Animator's Palette (one of the three onboard restaurants--you go to one each night, it is the fanciest)
Anyway, all this to say I thought it was amazing, and I would consider it well worth the money.
What made it so wonderful for me was that there was an area that was for teens only and I was able to have my own vacation.
The Disney Cruise Line really prides itself on being the cruise line in which everyone can have their own cruise, from romantic couples to even younger kids.
There is an "Adults Only" area, and restaurant so you can have a romantic dinner (reserve early!)
There's really so much going on on those ships, it's difficult to try to detail all of it.
(and if you truly do love Disney, you'll cry when you hear the horn. :) )
Ha! I loved the teen club, too! I was sixteen and all my friends and I thought it was so awesome to have our own club with activities for us away from the chaperones, unlike most other school trips.
And now I realize that the chaperones were probably just as excited to be rid of us!
It may be a little cold to visit the pool, but there is a spa in there as well (I missed it until the day we left for the cruise, I was pretty annoyed.)

Are you a member of hogwarts_elite or were you?
For some reason I see you and I think "Hogsmeade!" though I could just be insane.
