Ladies and gentlemen, I have a proposition. (And saying ladies and gentlemen to you is no longer insulting! How novel. Speaking of which, Mrs. and Miss Birkin, I am Regene Regetta, and it's a pleasure to meet you. Or it will be ( Read more... )

...I don't have any decision-making power, but I already agreed to bake you cake. What kind do you like?

You live here now, don't you? You should be part of the decision-making process too.

...why did you agree to bake me a cake?

Even though I'm twelve?

Because I'm not a scientist, I'm no good with security, and I can't run the island. I don't have anything much to do to help, so Dad suggested I could bake you cake.

What's wrong with being twelve?

Oh. Well, I like other things apart from cake, you know. But everyone thinks I only eat cake and candy and cookies. I just eat them because I can't be bothered to make anything. Well. I can't make anything. So if you wanted, you could make something else. If you can.

And you still look desperate. How am I to know this isn't some sort of overblown bluff?

Do I really look desperate?

...ah, this wasn't supposed to be some sort of hostage situation. I was just trying to inform you of the situation. You can ask Birkin, Dr. William Birkin that is, for further clarification.

Indeed you do, but I quite understand.

Perhaps I will at that. However, that's all you would want? Sanctuary? And would I simply have to trust that you're not planning some foolish betrayal?

What else can you offer me that I don't already have?

...Oh my god please don't tell me you watched Stein and Birkin going at it.

You know! Going at oh shit that kid... science! That stuff! They get up to all sorts, you didn't watch that, right?

Oh, no. It's all either boring or disgusting.

Fine with me. My usual idea of security is dissecting anyone who is stupid enough to try to break into my house, but I'm not too particular about keeping my secrets. Unlike some.

But making sure that the viruses don't escape and turn us all into slavering beasts is good for everyone, so I vote that we do everything possible to keep that from happening.

Well, precisely. None of you require help with physical security, but should somebody with the slightest bit of technological know-how come knocking...

Hey, I have the slightest bit of technical know-how... I just don't have a great deal of technical know-how.

...I didn't cry on your shoulder.

And that's... Not a terrible idea, but if we're focusing on breaches of security, could you kill Adachi while you're at it?

I didn't say you did.

I don't know, can I? If I try to shoot him, am I going to get smacked down by the overwhelming force of his repressed fantasies?

You implied it, which is almost as bad.

...Shoot him in the foot, just to make sure. It'd certainly make me feel a lot better.

Who said I was talking about you?

If it's going to make you feel better, why don't you shoot him in the foot?
