[Knuckles browsed though the bookshelves in the library, the guide had said he probably wouldn't find my information here, but he was going to try anyway. The few people he'd met seem to expect him to take what was writing in the guide as fact. But Knuckles couldn't not check, just like he couldn't pretend his time here was a “vacation” like

... It's just too bad that it's on paper. Robert doesn't think he'll ever be completely used to paper. It just makes him wonder how many trees had to die.
At any rate, though, a fellow skeptic is definitely appreciated, and so Robert would totally empathize with what Knuckles was doing - if he noticed it, anyway. Right now, he's rather engrossed in a book about chelonian health and anatomy. (Were Knuckles to know Robert a little better, he might be able to guess why he's reading it...) Or at least, he was engrossed. The sight of a dimunitive, bright red, spiny looking non-human sapient definitely grabs his attention.
But the first thing he does is ask, in a nervous, halting, but clearly curious voice:]
E-Excuse me, but... might you, er, need some... a-assistance perusing those books?

... Forgive me for this, but I do not recognize your species... Though I m-must say, it is quite fascinating. Are humans perhaps common to your planet as well? They seem... inordinately thoroughly-dispersed in many of the m-multiverses represented by Luceti.
[Robert is starting to calm down, if Knuckles notices the way his stuttering is getting less prevalent.]
... I ought to coherently introduce myself before I make such inquiries, though.
My name is Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. [Yes, he always introduces himself like that, Knuckles.]

[Knuckles doesn't so much notice the lack of nerves as the increase in obvious curiosity.]
There aren't many humans on Mobius at all. [Knuckles looks like he was going to say more before thinking better of it.]
And I'm an Echidna, my name is Knuckles.

[This... doesn't quite surprise Robert, though he has to wonder.] Are the humans on Mobius from outside the planet, then? That is, colonists, perhaps...?
And it is a pleasure to meet you, Knuckles. [Robert is always happy to meet new non-human sapients.] An echidna, you say...?
... There are species called echidnas that live on my planet as well, but they do not resemble yourself very much. For one thing, they are far smaller... and generally not red. Or bipedal.
Reply
[Knuckles expression darkens slightly.] Something like that. From what I've heard he just appeared one day.
There are!? [Oh Professor you got his hopes up for a moment.] Oh...So they aren't like my people at all?
Reply
... Only one human on your entire planet? [Well, that must be awkward.] Is there some reason for him being there?
... I-I apologize. I did not mean to... discourage you. But, no, I cannot say that they are... it is interesting that the name is the same, though.

[Knuckles lets out a sigh, the man wasn't to know that the echidna had spent so long looking for his people. And he doubts a man so clearly unhappy at the thought of war would want to know that Robotnik was the cause of the war on Mobius.]

He hasn't met one outside of them, though.]
I hope that... the war state of your planet can eventually abate.
[It is something he often wishes for worlds with war.]

I should have explained better, the war's already over. [As far as Knuckles knows anyway] But the damage had already been done to the Star posts.
Reply
Ah, is that so? That is a good thing to hear, though it is problematic that structures were damaged.
Can the Star Posts be repaired, or is there something preventing that somehow?
Reply
I have no idea. I never used the Star Posts myself. The are other means of travel...but I know even less about them. [Learning about them would require Knuckles to be remotely interested in something not related to his island. And that's never going to happen.]

Well... I do hope there is a method of repairing them, for the sake of your world... It seems terrible to have one's method of moving between multiverses cut off.
... Though Terrans rarely use transporter technology due to its energy costs, but for it to disappear entirely would be a devastating loss.
