I still love Cooper shopping and hating it, and I like how overwhelmed he is about getting something he didn't let himself want out loud. And I ESPECIALLY like how sneak attack romantic they are, at the end, just for a moment. That last line killed me in the best way.

and yay romantic sneak attack - my favorite thing about writing characters who have a significant age difference (or i guess, like, world-weary life difference? though in this case they are better matched in that area) is how the younger one can, like, change everything just by having a little bit of unguarded hope. ben believes he can get a room, that he can have a tomorrow, and so he says and does those things without really fighting them the way cooper would have to if they were his idea first. but then once they're out there - cooper can just go along with the mood. the forward momentum.
